Uzair worked as a sports trainer of the local taekwondo youth club together with his brother Teymur, and was apprehended in his home in October 2016 where he lived with his wife and four children, and with three others charged with “participating in a terrorist organization” which his brother allegedly headed. The police confiscated all the money in the house. They five men are being accused of participating in Hizb-ut-Tahrir, a panislamic political movement that Russia criminalized in 2003, despite it being recognized as peaceful and being perfectly legal in Ukraine and most of the world. This arrest follows a wave of arrests for alleged participation in Hizb-ut-Tahrir, in which 19 people have been arrested starting from 2015.
