AYDER SALEDINOV

A Crimean Tatar with four children living in the suburbs of Simferopol, Azder was apprehended in his home in October 2016 together with Teymur Abdullayev, Uzair Abdullayev, Emil Dzhemadenov, and Rustem Ismailov. The five men, all Crimean Tatars active in their community, were despite any evidence accused of “participating in a terrorist organization,” i.e. Hizb-ut-Tahrir, a panislamic political movement that Russia criminalized in 2003, despite it being recognized as peaceful and being perfectly legal in Ukraine and most of the world. This arrest follows a wave of arrests for alleged participation in Hizb-ut-Tahrir, in which 19 people have been arrested starting from 2015.
